ESN Akademi RESEARCH CENTER

Foundations

The ESN Akademi Research Center was established as the culmination of decades of dedication to Japanese studies and translation studies. Since 1990, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Esin Esen has been actively engaged in various fields of the Japanese world, dedicating nearly two decades to research in Japanese studies. Throughout her career, she has brought together scholars from Turkey and Japan for collaborative academic endeavors, resulting in significant publications in Japanology and translation studies.

These collaborative efforts, combined with Dr. Esen’s research on specialized areas—particularly classical Japanese literature (koten bungaku) and translation studies—have laid the academic foundation for the center, which aims to advance interdisciplinary research and enable global collaboration in Japanese studies and translation studies.

Mission and Vision

Building on these foundations the ESN Akademi Research Center aims to elevate Japanese studies and translation studies to a global level. The center’s mission is to create a sustainable platform for advancing research, building international collaboration, and promoting innovation in these areas.

Through its initiatives, the center brings together researchers, educators, and practitioners from all around the world to expand academic and professional dialogues, ensuring the continued growth of Japanese studies and translation studies on a global scale.

Research Focus

The ESN Akademi Research Center focuses on Japanese studies, with particular attention to:

  • Classical Japanese literature (koten bungaku), with an emphasis on the Man’yō and Heian periods.
  • Translation studies, particularly within Japanese contexts, addressing gaps and promoting interdisciplinary approaches.
  • Reader responsibility in Japanese, which is a key concept not only in linguistic studies but also in translation studies and literature.

By bridging these areas, the center seeks to advance scholarship and contribute to Japanese studies in less-studied research fields.

Research Sustainability Model
The ESN Akademi Research Center is committed to creating a sustainable research environment and operates under the structure of ESN Akademi. The center is not profit-oriented. Instead, it is designed to build and sustain academic research, global collaboration, and social impact in the fields of Japanese studies and translation studies.
